Student Absence Reporting

To report a student absence, please email the attendance office with your excusal
to Altamont Attendance Email: [email protected]

The email should contain the following information:
1. Student First name
2. Student Last name
3. Reason for absence
4. Name of the person reporting the absence
5. Attach Medical Note, if applicable

If you prefer to report your student’s absence by phone, please call (209) 836-7241 and leave the same information listed above. Please note that the phone number you are calling from must match the number on file in Aeries for your student. 
 
Absences must be cleared within seventy-two (72) hours (three days).
Absences not cleared within this timeframe will remain unexcused.
 
EXCUSING AN ABSENCE
When excusing an absence, please include the student’s name, date(s) of absence, and reason for the absence to avoid any delays in processing.

- If there is an error in your student’s attendance record, it is the responsibility of the
parent/guardian or student to first contact the teacher. The teacher must then notify the attendance office to request any corrections.
 
EARLY PICK-UPS / DISMISSALS
When picking up your student early or calling the office to request an early dismissal, Please allow up to 20 minutes for your student to be released to the office.
  • Parent/Guardian must be present before office will call the student from the classroom. This will ensure students are not losing essential class time.
  • Parent/Guardian must email attendance to authorize permission to send Students walking home for early dismissals.

PRE-APPROVAL EXCUSAL REQUESTS
Submit an ONLINE Pre-approval Request Form for a pre-planned absence of one (1) to four (4) school days. An advance written request from the parent/guardian and approval by the principal or designee are required for qualifying justifiable personal reasons, including, but not limited to, those outlined in Education Code 48205(a)(7). Pre-approved absences may not be taken during the first twenty (20) or last twenty (20) days of the school year.
 
- Appearance in court (attachment required)
- Attendance at a funeral service
- Observation of a holiday or ceremony of his/her Religion
- Attendance at religious retreat (attachment required)
- Student Employment interview or conference (attachment required)
- Family emergency (less than 5 school days)
- College visit
- Visa Appointment (attachment required)
- Other pre-approved justifiable reason (non-vacation)
*For other justifiable personal reasons, please discuss with your school administrator prior to submitting the pre-approval absence.
 
NOTE: If the absence will be five (5) or more school days, please complete the ONLINE Short-Term Independent Study Request Form or by accessing it under the Student Services section of the Lammersville Unified School District website.
 
SHORT-TERM INDEPENDENT STUDY
Short-term independent study may be available to students who will be absent for a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of fourteen (14) consecutive school days due to travel or other non-medical reasons. Requests must be submitted at least ten (10) school days prior to the start of the absence.

ILLNESS / MEDICAL Absences
Pursuant to LUSD Administrative Regulation (AR) 5113(c), once a student has accumulated ten (10) illness absences verified by a parent/guardian, any additional illness absences must be verified by a doctor’s note. The medical note must be received within seventy-two (72) hours (three days) in order to clear the absence; otherwise, the absence will remain unexcused.
